As we leave February behind and move swiftly on into March, the season of Lent is upon us. If we have grown up in a more traditional church culture, we may associate Lent with ‘giving things up’. We may even have decided that celebrating the Lenten Season holds nothing for us. Others of us may not have been raised in a religious culture at all, and so we have no idea what this celebration is all about.
I believe that it benefits us as Spiritual Beings to know the vocabulary, stories, and meaning behind our religious and cultural traditions. We cannot make an informed choice about whether or not to make them a part of our Spiritual Journey without doing some research…looking at how the traditions have evolved and asking ourselves whether there might be value in their Practices.
The Season of Lent begins 40 days and six Sundays before Easter, on Ash Wednesday. It is a time set aside to honor the Master Teacher Yeshua and to follow his example of deep reflection during his 40 days in the wilderness, facing and overcoming temptations and coming to know himself as a Divine Being. In the world’s mystical teachings, the number 40 signifies purification, spiritual triumph and completion. And so at Mystic Heart, we set this time period to fast and feast. We fast from patterns of negative thinking and habits that do not serve us, and we feast on the many Blessings that Divine Source has bestowed upon us. We fast from falsities and feast on Truth.
I look forward to the incredible journey we will make in this time of reflection and celebration. Please join us for the many activities and events offered by Mystic Heart this Lenten Season!
May you walk in God’s Abundant Grace this beautiful, once-in-a-lifetime day…
In Love and Light,
Rev. Diana
